Mother-in- law doesn’t let us to plan our own wedding..Need serious advice..?
Me and mY fiance as been engaged for a year. We both are ready to get married now financially and emotionally..We have or own budget which is enough for a simple small yet elegant wedding. My mother in law is bing so mean to me these day while im planing my wedding. It seems like its her day and not mine. Anything she wants is over our budget and the funny thing is that she is NOT going even help us for anything. I have came up with several options and she is like im not gonna attend your wedding if this is what you wanna do.. I really need some help on this. I don’t know how get her over this. She doest understand and is just stressing me out..How to tell her its MY DAY and WE ( me & Jon) Want to have the wedding we want. I don’t wanna hurt anybody but this is just becoming an issue..any suggestion?
Have you thought about not talking to her about the wedding, and having your fiance not talk to her about it?
Just do your planning and if she asks about anything, respond “Oh, Eunice (or whatever you call her), we’re taking care of that.” and change the subject.
If she gets ticked off, let her. You are not responsible for her feelings or behavior. Only for your own.
One of the things that helps cut stress down tremendously is recognize that it is all right for unreasonable people to disapprove of you. Your future MIL is being unreasonable. You don’t have to try to get her approval; the nice thing about people who will disapprove of anything you do is that you are free to just forget about their approval entirely. You will never make her happy; she will never approve of your plans. So feel free to stop trying.
One of the great fallacies of life that we all have to learn to get over is that it’s important to have everybody like us and approve of us. That is simply not true– many people are unreasonable and are not likeable. You don’t need these people’s approval.
