Summer brides, how did you feel in your satin dress?
My wedding is in mid-August, and I will be outside for a pretty large portion of the day.
Sorry about the TMI, but I sweat A LOT (I wear strong anti-perspirants, but there’s only so much you can do). I arrived at a friend’s July outdoor wedding in a dress containing a lot of polyester, and as soon as I got out of the car, I had to grab a cotton dress from my luggage and get changed.
The wedding is in August because that’s the most convenient time for everyone, and the ceremony is outside because it’s beautiful.
I want a tea-length, cap sleeve dress, and am finding that most dresses are SATIN. Would this be bearable? How did you girls deal in the summer?
Does anyone know where I could get a dress made of natural, breathable fabrics, that still look “bridal”?

Your wedding sounds lovely! But I do see your point about the satin in the heat… there’s nothing more unattractive than sweat marks ESPECIALLY on a bride! And you want to be comfortable. If you’re really worried about it, have you considered having your dress made? It sounds as though you have a fair idea of what you want, or alternatively you could find some pictures from magazines or the web and show them to a dressmaker. That way, you could have total control, not just over the design but over the fabric as well. You could have it made in cotton and have a really lovely, light, comfortable summery dress.
If you shop around, you can find dressmakers with really reasonable rates too. Good luck, and enjoy your day!
One other thought – if you do go ahead with satin, you could just be sure to get a really good quality slip to wear underneath, to soak up any extra sweat and stop you sticking to it and being uncomfortable.
