Groom toasts are one of the many duties of the groom at a wedding reception. Typically, the groom toast is given at the beginning or the end of the groom speech. It’s a ‘man thing’ since, even if brides take the occasion to give bride speeches, a toast is not usually included.
The giving of a wedding toast is normally limited to four people. These would include the groom, the best man, the father of the bride and the father of the groom. Best man speeches are common, at which time the best man’s toast will be offered. The only other wedding speeches commonly given will be from the bride’s father.
Groom toasts are made to honor attendees to the wedding. Any additional wedding toast given will be meant to honor the couple who have just been married. A groom speech is an opportunity for the groom to thank everyone attending and to pay special acknowledgment to parents on both sides, grandparents and all those who helped put together the wedding ceremony and reception. Special mention will also usually be made to those serving in the wedding party.
The groom speech will also normally include a few thoughts from the speaker about what the day means to him and how he feels now that he’s officially tied the knot with the woman he loves. When well done this short talk can be quite memorable. A most typical way to end the groom speech is when the groom toasts the audience for their participation.
