The most popular color of wedding gown is white, and this is the reason that there are also so many white flower girl dresses too. The great thing about these little gowns is that they are usually less serious and less “fussy” than a formal bridal gown. Instead, they have some design features intended to mirror some element of the more formal dress.
For example, many styles of white flower girl dresses have embroidered or organza overlays that are similar in appearance to the heavily beaded and embroidered materials used to create the bride’s dress.
Other white flower girl dresses might use a very high-quality material like 100% silk, but will also feature a very simple cut or style and gorgeous accents meant to coordinate with the rest of the bridal party. For instance, it is quite common for almost any basic flower girl dress made in a pure white fabric to have a broad sash, be-ribboned hemline, or even a bodice in a color that matches the cummerbunds of the men in the bridal party, or which matches precisely the color of the bridesmaid’s gowns.
It is interesting to note the various shades of white flower girl dresses that are available too. For instance, an antique white gown will usually be cut in a style such as the Empire or the more old-fashioned looks while one in a dramatic pure white might be designed with features to soften its lines, such as a massive bow attached at the bodice.
Before choosing a color as vulnerable to staining as pure white, it is a good idea to consider the personality and the age of the wearer. Many people want their flower girls to look similar to the bride, but if this is a toddler who is active and who may even insist on feeding themselves, the dress could be easily stained at any point during the day. For this reason it might be a wiser idea to limit the use of purely white gowns to children who will be a bit more mindful of their clothes and who will avoid behaviors that might mar the colors of their gown.
Interestingly enough, many high-quality manufacturers make their white dresses in such a way as to allow them to be worn for other occasions and to even have removable or interchangeable features such as the silk sashes, flowers, and overlays.
