How to remove water stains from a polyester fabric?
When I opened the package with my cap, gown, tassel, hat, and stole, I noticed the stole had dirt on it. So, I used a wet washcloth to remove the dirt. Unfortunately, water stains are now there. My graduation stole is gold, and 100% polyester. It says “dry clean only”, and I cannot take it to the cleaners, because I won’t get it back in time. I’ve tried rubbing away the water stain, and placing it over the heat in a kettle of hot water.
Steam will just make more water stains and polyester doesn’t like excessive heat. Water stains will only “go away” if you wash it basically creating one big water stain. The trouble with washing a gown like that is it will wrinkle badly and be difficult to get the creases out of but it may be your only solution. It could shrink though making it too short.
