Fisher Price Sing A Ma Jigs, plush characters with funky retro t-shirts from Mattel, Inc made it to my top toy picks for 2010 simply because they’re affordable, they’re lovable and kids seeing them on the toy shelves will be unable to resist them.
When you squeeze their tummies and they’ll begin to chatter, squeeze their hands and then the tummy again and they’ll sing you a note. Their mouths move while singing to show you a row of perfect teeth. Part of the charm of these Sing A Ma Jigs is that the sound is quite unexpected, unlike anything that you have ever heard really.
Play Time
Unfortunately there is no power button with this toy, the moment you squeeze their bellies they begin singing. Left unattended they will shut down into power saving mode but not before giving a parting “Bye Bye” or “See You Later.”
There are three ways to enjoy the Sing A Ma Jigs. First there is the speaking mode indicated by a little “Ah” before the chatter sets in. Of course you must first squeeze the tummy to release the constant stream of baby like chatter or cooing.
The second option is to press the arm until you hear “song” and they will sing you a song. Squeeze the belly faster or slower to control the pace of the music they sing.
The third option and this is the default, is to harmonize. The option can be identified by a single tone and squeezing the belly in this mode will cause the toy to emit selected tones.
I have to admit it took me a while to get used to their almost screeching voices but I love them and they always put a smile on my face. Even more than me, my son loves them although he thought they were weird at first.
Of course you can add to the fun by purchasing more than one and listen to them sing in harmony. Priced under twenty dollars you will need to purchase at least two triple A batteries parents can delight their kids for the holidays without having to break the bank.
The Sing A Ma Jigs each have different vocal ranges from alto to baritone and each color sings a different song.
