Pubs In Essex
A fine example of the quality of pubs that can be found in Essex is the winner of the ‘Best Traditional Pub’ Award at the Essex Food & Drinks Awards 2008, The Axe & Compasses in Aythorpe Roding, Dunmow.

Situated not far from Dunmow in the nearby town of Margaretting, just off the A12, is their sister pub The Red Lion. A 17th Century ‘Olde Worlde’ pub that plays host to events throughout the year such as Traditional Folk Music and Dancing to various Car Shows.
If the Essex coast is more to your liking, why not pay The Victory, on Mersea Island a visit. Awarded 4 Star Inn Status by Visit Britain, the name as it suggests is in reference to Lord Nelson’s famous warship ‘HMS Victory’.
Located close to the oldest part of Mersea with unspoilt views over the Blackwater, you will find the pub not only offers a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to eat or drink, but also has accommodation available should you wish to stay and explore the Island.
