Victorian history lover question about bridal gowns. Is this accurrate?…?
In the film, The Phantom of the Opera, 2004, Christine’s wedding dress in “The Final Lair/Finale” scene is off the shoulder. This is not very accurrate, is it? Back then (1870), it would be considered slutty to have an off the shoulder dress. Many dresses were at least just below the collarbone, or collared. The London stage production’s costumes are much more accurrate, aren’t they? Sleeved, frilled ends of sleeves, etc…?
I think you are wrong there. Suggest you have a look at some
websites about Victorian gowns as it was common for ladies to have off the shoulder dresses as having ‘fine white shoulders’ with just a hint of bosom was considered to be very fashionable for evening wear.You could not however show your shoulders or bosom during the day.
